I began painting in 2006 after attending my first art class. Prior to this I had spent over 20 years making Patchwork and Art Quilts. The Art class which was supposed to help me design Art quilts started me on a different path and now 13 years later I am still painting & the quilts are a rare occurrence!
My art has evolved over the years but my love of straight lines & shapes has always been a strong influence. Buildings old and new, the iconic symbols that define a community and landscapes, local or from afar provide me with source material. I enjoy looking at our local landscape and nature with a geometric eye. I am finding it immensely satisfying turning any subject matter into shapes & lines.
I work mainly in acrylics, enjoying the effect of the solid bold colours and the immediacy of the medium but have recently been incorporating collage into my work.
My greatest inspiration comes from the composition and the stillness in the work of Jeffery Smart.
