Pauline Ramsey-Murray
New Zealand born wire artist and gemologist, Pauline has lived worked and studied in Australia for over 45 years. Her career changes to her present status as a member of the Seaview. Artist Gallery have been many and various.
While she qualified in Canberra as a gemologist in 1975, work in that area was slow to materialise, and she joined the Australian National University as coordinator of their professional updating and further education courses. For the next 10 years, she was the instigator of many eww series at the Centre for Continuing Education, encompassing, all university disciplines, and researching for several months at the university of California, Los Angeles, USA. During this time she travelled widely, setting up programs across Australia and New Zealand for lecturers from the USA.
Later, she added Arts/Law degrees from Monash University to her portfolio and completed her articles in Darwin as associate to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory.
None of this of course added one jot to her first love of rocks and gemstones, though the thread was always there as a hobby interest. The motivation to create jewellery came when she was living in Hawaii. Inspired by local artists and courses in wearable art from Smithsonian Institute lecturers, she combined her rock cutting techniques with wire art, and found a new dimension for more complicated art pieces.
For the past 20 years, she has travelled to the world’s largest gem shows in Tucson, Arizona, to purchase new gemstone stock and enjoy the interaction with artists from all over the world. Over 16 years ago, Pauline moved to the Sunshine Coast and has been a member of the Seaview Artists Gallery for the past 10 years.
